Babeș-Bolyai University + Mittweida University of Applied Sciences
Studying Global Communication in Business and Culture allows you to combine your German degree at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences with an international university degree. This is made possible through our cooperation with the Babeș-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (UBB). With our double degree programme, you complete two degree programmes in one: you start in Mittweida and take the Communication and Public Relations degree programme in Cluj-Napoca in the second year – and receive your Bachelor’s certificates from both universities at the end.
You’ve never heard of Babeș-Bolyai? Then it’s about time! Its tradition dates back to 1581, and German was taught here starting in 1698. Today, UBB is the largest and most renowned university in the country. In the British QS Star Ranking, the university was the only one in Romania to receive the QS**** certification, which attests to its excellence in teaching and research.
Cluj-Napoca is the second largest city in Romania and the capital of Transylvania, a region with a German-speaking tradition. Today it is the cultural centre of Romania’s Hungarian minority. In general, Cluj-Napoca has around 300,000 inhabitants and is multicultural, with more than ten religions practised here.
Studying in German or English in Romania
An advantage for you: UBB is quadrilingual. You can study in German and English – or try your hand at Romanian and Hungarian if one of them is not your mother tongue anyway. The Bachelor’s degree programme in Communication Studies in Cluj-Napoca is internationally oriented. In addition to local teachers, lecturers from Germany and Austria also teach here. Like HSMW, UBB also emphasises practical experience. At the annual advertising festival, students create campaigns for advertising agencies and companies in the region. There are also meetings with representatives of the German embassy. You discuss current political issues with them and work on creative strategies for PR campaigns.
You decide which modules you take in Cluj-Napoca. The entire module catalogue of the UBB is open to you. You will probably be most interested in the modules offered by the Faculty of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences and the modules of the Communication and Public Relations degree programme. Nevertheless, you should also take a look at the programmes offered by the Faculty of European Studies, the Faculty of Economics and Management and the Faculty of Business. You may find a number of modules that match your interests and supplement your personal profile perfectly.
Compared to the ‘standard’ Global Communication in Business and Culture degree programme at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, there is only one additional requirement that you need to fulfil. This is due to UBB’s status as a university. In order to study at Babeș-Bolyai University, you must have a university entrance qualification. Language certificates, on the other hand, are not required.
